ATM-IDS operates on Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) workstations running the Windows® Operating System (OS). Because it operates on the Windows® OS, other software applications can be resident on the same hardware platform for use independently or in conjunction with ATM-IDS. Multiple workstations running ATM-IDS are linked via TCP/IP for data dissemination over local or wide area networks. Workstations may be located within a single facility, throughout an airport, and/or in a variety of satellite facilities located over a wide geographical area. There is no limit to the number of workstations that can be interconnected via an ATM-IDS network system. ATM-IDS distributes and saves data to each workstation, thus ensuring system redundancy. This type of system architecture provides a high level of system integrity, which minimizes, if not eliminates, the impact of a workstation failure on the rest of the network. Because the hardware failure only affects the individual workstation, a workstation failure does not "take down the network" as with some other types of server-based systems. Once the failed workstation is replaced, ATM-IDS’s data synchronization process begins and distributes an identical copy of the complete database to the new, replaced workstation.
