FAA Extends Contract for
IDS4 Support Services
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 31, 2009) – The Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) awarded a contract extension to Systems Atlanta, Inc.
(SAI) for support services of all IDS4 systems deployed in the FAA National
Airspace System (NAS). This support has been provided for the previous five
(5) years and now continues through 2015 for the remaining life of the IDS4
systems.
IDS4 is the most widely implemented data display system
and integration platform utilized in the ATC environment, equipping
controller positions in all sizes of ATC facilities. Approximately 133
FAA-owned IDS4 systems link some 390 facilities, most of which are Air
Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs) and Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON)
facilities. These IDS4 systems currently consist of 2,230 IDS4 workstations
and over 300 interface connections to external weather and other NAS status
systems. IDS4 workstations serve operational ATC positions, as well as
supervisor, administrative, and maintenance positions. Additionally, many
locations are equipped with the IDS4 External Data Interface (EDI) system or
IDS4 System Interface Unit (SIU), which consolidate external interface
connections to the IDS4 network systems. In terms of units fielded, IDS4
constitutes one of the largest FAA systems.
Many of the more complex IDS4 systems consist of local
and wide area networks linking host facilities with remote sites, as well as
intersystem connectivity between separate hub systems. In many locations,
IDS4 provides the point of automated information exchange between the FAA
terminal environment and other ATC domains, airport and airline operations
facilities, and military ATC and airfield management facilities.
SAI provides second level engineering support to
AJW/14A, the Primary Support Organization (PSO), and upon PSO authorization,
directly to IDS4 field personnel, both Air Traffic and Technical Operations.
SAI’s services include IDS4 technical and product support by phone, onsite
engineering support services, network reconfigurations, software licenses
and testing of new interfaces, and training services as needed.
