Alpena CRTC Re-Tools for
IDS5
ALPENA, Michigan (May 11, 2009) – Alpena’s Combat Readiness
Training Center (CRTC), also known as “The Gem of the North”, will upgrade
all hardware associated with their existing Integrated Information Display &
Dissemination System (IDS5) in their Radar Approach Control (RAPCON), air
traffic control tower (ATCT) and Base Operations facilities.
IDS5 has been in use at Alpena CRTC
for 5 years and is the nucleus of all air traffic control and airfield
operations communication. IDS5
was developed by Systems Atlanta Inc. (SAI) and is used by Alpena’s air
traffic controllers (tower and Radar Approach Control) as well as Airfield
Management personnel and Security Forces to display and communicate
operational information on the base local area network (LAN).
These facilities update information that is transmitted to all other
workstations on the network, significantly reducing voice communication and
coordination. The IDS5 users
also have an array of critical reference information “one click away”.
A small sample of this information includes aviation regulations,
emergency and other operational checklists, ready reference files, telephone
numbers and alternate communication procedures.
Alpena CRTC is located in upper Michigan along the shores of Lake
Huron and serves the civil flying community as well as Michigan Air National
Guard (MIANG) aircraft utilizing military Special Use Airspace.
The CRTC also serves as a major training facility for numerous fire
fighting and law enforcement agencies as well as combat orientated
activities.
