Systems Atlanta has supplied its IDS5 software suite for
McGuire, Wright-Patterson, and Travis USAF bases. Operational
systems at McGuire and Wright-Patterson are proving their
adaptability, variously serving Tower and RAPCON controller
positions, Weather Offices, Airfield Operations, and Pilot
Briefing areas. Wright-Patterson reports that collocation of
weather, time, NOTAMs, and airfield information on one screen
immediately improves controllers’ situational awareness. Local
Area Network (LAN) accreditation has provided the capability to
incorporate several web-based services such as NOTAMs and the
Air Force’s Automated Meteorological Information Service (AMIS).
McGuire values the ability to display any of 39 approach charts
from 13 airports with a single button click. Automating
everything that formerly required paper has allowed them to
reduce upgrade training times. The IDS5 system being implemented
at Travis AFB will equip the new Radar Approach Control (RAPCON)
facility. At these sites, IDS5 shares a common workstation and
display with StarCaster-ATIS, which is accessed from within
IDS5. This product integration has resulted in cost savings
while streamlining ATC operations and reducing controller
workload. Wright-Patterson’s IDS5 will interface to the FAA’s
IDS4 system at Dayton Approach for data exchange over a secure
Internet connection. |
