Systems Atlanta has supplied its latest IDS5 software system to
equip the new Radar Approach Control (RAPCON) facility serving
the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC) of the
Michigan Air National Guard. IDS5 equips controller and
supervisor positions in the RAPCON, tower, and training facility
with a direct automated link to Base Operations. The display
integrates real-time weather observations, airfield information,
flight condition reports, tower visibility, quick action and
position relief checklists, aircraft characteristics data, and
other general aeronautical data. The facility reports improved
situational awareness, reduced need for voice coordination
between Tower and RAPCON, and reduced reliance on paper
information sources; for example, their electronic emergency
action “binder” with data access “one button click away.” |

IDS5, version 1.3, (released 02/01/07) offers several enhancements
