Systems Atlanta, Inc. announces that its latest generation IDS5
software suite is now operational in ACE-IDS systems (All
Weather, Inc., prime contractor) at six FAA Air Traffic Control
hubs and numerous satellite facilities. The latest to go
operational is the Potomac consolidated TRACON (PCT). Each
operational position has dual 18-inch LCD monitors mounted side
by side above the radar display. One monitor is dedicated to
real-time weather and critical NAS information from numerous
sources at all linked facilities, integrated for distribution
throughout the wide area network. The other monitor displays
aeronautical data, navigational charts, checklists, and
procedures, etc., customized for the position it serves. PCT
controllers share information rapidly and efficiently with all
hub facilities, including Reagan National (DCA), Dulles,
Baltimore-Washington, Andrews AFB, and Richmond. This large
system connects 121 workstations located at six major ATC
facilities.
According to Randy Horner, ACE-IDS database administrator at DCA,
“controllers value the real-time data from all sites available
on a single system. They have instant access to information
through one or two button clicks.” DCA was the first site to use
panoramic photos taken from the tower windows to display
visibility markers in IDS5. This method has been certified by
the National Weather Service as the official source for tower
visibility measurement at DCA. Other operational ACE-IDS hub
systems running IDS5 include Atlanta Large TRACON, Oklahoma
City, Dallas-Ft. Worth, St. Louis Gateway TRACON, and the
Northern California TRACON.

IDS5 Version 1.3
