Systems Atlanta, Inc. (SAI) is a
small business located in Woodstock, Georgia, a suburb of the
Atlanta metropolitan area. SAI has over two decades of
experience with information collection, dissemination, and
display technology for air traffic control and the aviation
industry. During that time, we have delivered models IDS1-IDS5
to the FAA and/or the US military for ATC operations. Our IDS4/5
products have now replaced all earlier models in the field.
SAI has experience designing products flexible enough to meet
the information needs of controllers in a variety of air traffic
environments. Our IDS systems are operational in ATCTs, TRACONs,
AFSSs, ARTCCs, weather stations, maintenance facilities,
training facilities, airline / airport operations centers, and
military RAPCONs, Towers, Base Operations / Pilot Briefing
areas, Command Posts, Fire Departments, and Range/Airspace
facilities. All users regard these IDS systems as valuable
tools. Air traffic controllers have often described IDS as the
third most important system they use, following only voice
communications and radar.
SAI’s IDS4 system has been implemented in more than 400 FAA air
traffic control facilities. Operational IDS4 systems now consist
of over 2600 workstations and over 300 interface connections to
external weather and other NAS status systems. In terms of units
fielded, this constitutes one of the largest of the FAA’s
systems. Many of the more complex IDS4 systems consist of local
and wide area networks linking host facilities with remote
sites. At a number of locations, non-FAA organizations have
purchased IDS workstations to connect with FAA systems. This
automates information sharing between air traffic control,
airport operations, airlines, military facilities, and other
aviation-related entities within a geographical area.
During 1998-99, SAI was awarded contracts to correct all Y2K
problems in the FAA’s information display systems located at air
traffic control facilities throughout the US. Performance of
these contracts required replacement of some 1000 IDS2
workstations by IDS4 at approximately 100 sites. All IDS4
equipment and software deliveries, personnel training, and
system installations and/or configurations tasked under the Y2K
program were completed on time, within budget, and with systems
and services that exceeded expectations.
SAI’s latest generation IDS5 software is currently being
supplied to both civilian and military ATC facilities.
Development of IDS5 has been based upon feedback from the close
cooperative relationship we maintain with users of our previous
and currently fielded systems. User feedback has enabled Systems
Atlanta to deliver the product capabilities that make their jobs
easier.
IDS5 has been delivered for approximately 800 workstations at
some 90 facilities under the FAA’s national ACE-IDS program. The
ACE-IDS program has equipped the new consolidated Terminal Radar
Approach Control (TRACON) facilities, their associated towers,
and various other remote sites. This program also upgraded all
ACE systems and several IDS4 systems to ACE-IDS.
SAI was awarded the US Air Force’s Airfield Automation System (AFAS)
contract and is scheduled to deliver IDS5 to Air Force ATC facilities worldwide. These facilities include RAPCONs, GCAs,
RFCs, and Towers. AFAS will utilize SAI’s latest version of IDS5
software to equip over 500 workstations. AFAS will provide Air
Force controllers with an all-in-one data display platform,
integration platform, and data-sharing platform for all ATC
facilities.
SAI has more experience successfully designing and implementing
IDS systems than any vendor worldwide. Our knowledge and
experience spans the various ATC environments, enabling us to
develop IDS systems with the flexibility required for a variety
of aviation settings. SAI enjoys a strong, interactive, and
constructive relationship with air traffic controllers. Our
successful history of fulfilling customer needs at all levels
has earned us the respect of both FAA management and controller
bargaining units. SAI is uniquely qualified among vendors to
provide IDS capabilities for air traffic control facilities.
