Emergency Response

IDS5 gives Incident Commanders (IC) the ability to make command decisions with the benefit of accurate, real-time information, helping to safeguard the lives of fire and emergency victims as well as the firefighters themselves.

IDS5 allows information transfer between workstations over local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN) and wireless networks (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, et al). This live information connection enables IC’s to share critical on-scene information between other scene commanders, dispatch and staging units.

IDS5 workstations can be mounted in vehicles or made portable (e.g., via Tablet PC) for use on scene. Critical data such as maps, building diagrams, responding/staging units, apparatus status, personnel availability, water supplies and weather information can be loaded, updated and disseminated across the IDS5 network to all workstations, providing complete situational awareness to all units involved.

The Fire Department’s IDS5 network can also be connected to other IDS5 emergency response networks via an interface that allows multiple Fire Departments and local Police, Medical and Emergency Operations facilities to share critical information that may save lives.

Personnel Management

With IDS5 Fire Chiefs, Senior Fire Officers and Crew Supervisors are able to maintain the status of all assigned personnel. Information such as schedules, vehicle assignment and training can be stored and updated within IDS5, and as training is completed, each firefighter’s status can be updated to show compliance.

Shift schedules can be color-coded to provide quick reference to personnel availability, and firefighters can be assigned to an apparatus or vehicle at the same time they are assigned to shifts. IDS5 also provides immediate access to vehicle information (type, capabilities, inspections, maintenance, etc.).

Equipment Management

Because IDS5 allows authorized personnel to update equipment status to show quantity, availability, maintenance and inspection, firefighters are able to maintain an electronic record of equipment status.

Equipment can include vehicles, hoses, personnel fire gear, ladders, nozzles, gloves, etc.

Other key features include:

  • Alerts that can be used to notify an equipment manager when a piece of equipment is due for inspection or preventative maintenance.
  • The ability for users to “sign out” a piece of equipment for use.
  • The ability to assign a piece of equipment to a specific crew or apparatus.
  • The ability to update, manage and print maintenance schedules and logs with IDS5.
